Songfacts®:

  • This was the song that launched the career of Graham Bonnet as half of the duo The Marbles with his cousin Trevor Gordon; it also secured him the position of Rainbow lead vocalist.

"Only One Woman" was written by the Bee Gees, brothers Barry, Maurice and Robin Gibb, around July 1968. Barry played guitar, Maurice player piano and bass on the single which was released on the Polydor label in August 1968. Running to a mere 2 minutes 43 seconds, it was backed by "By The Light Of A Burning Candle." It was also recorded as a single by drummer Nigel Olsson with the backing band of his famous boss, Elton John.

After Ronnie Dio left Rainbow, Ritchie Blackmore auditioned a number of potential vocalists without success, then, according to Roger Glover in the band's biography Rainbow Rising: "One night we heard The Marbles' 'Only One Woman.' What happened to that guy? Wonder where he is? That's how we found him."

Glover had done session work with Bonnet before, and he was recruited for the band although he soon left to work on other projects. >>>

  • Bill from UkThe lyrics claim Graham is singing " I bet there are many. . . " but the video indicates its not the word 'bet'. Plus lyrics differ between " who sees my lovely face" and "who sees my lonely face. ," the video indicates the latter.
  • Under Down Under from Tasmania , AustraliaI wonder who was the dancer featured in the original Marbles film clip?
