Songfacts®:

  • Also known as "Come Along O' Me", this is a fairly typical Singing Postman composition; it appears to be about or at least directed to his mother, and was one of the first songs he recorded for the BBC after sending them a tape in 1959 of a song he'd written about the town of Sheringham. It was included on his debut EP which was released by Ralph Tuck Promotions in December 1964. >>>

  • Jeremy Blundell from South YorkshireYou are mixing up the English word "Mother" with the East Anglian word "Mawther" which means girl
  • Glynn from NorfolkIt is not about his Mother, it is about his "Mawther". Mawther is a Norfolk term for young girl. So this song is dedicated to his girlfriend.
