Songfacts®:

  • Thomas Rhett grew up in the music industry by means of his singer-songwriter father Rhett Akins, and this cut describes his life so far. He explained: "This song came about when I was scheduled to go in and write with the Warren Brothers. They came and said, 'we have the perfect song for you. It's called All American Middle Class White Boy.' They had the music and lyrics and just asked me questions to finish the song. It's funny to see how a song that I did not even start writing describes my entire life."
