Songfacts®:

  • Tori Kelly wrote this fragile acoustic ballad in tribute to former The Voice contestant Christina Grimmie, who was shot dead while meeting fans outside a concert in Orlando on June 12, 2016. The singer explained in a YouTube video that she penned the tune with singer-songwriter Zac Poor to help deal with her heartache surrounding Grimmie's death.

"I needed to write this song," Kelly explained. "My heart was and is still so heavy when I think of her not being with us. Even though this song had specific meaning, more recently I'm overwhelmed at the pain and the brokenness in the world today, and so this is really just me grieving. At all of it. Life is so short."
