Songfacts®:

  • The "magic power" is the music. This song is about a young girl who goes to bed at night listening to the radio, hoping the DJ will play her favorite song. It's a remnant from a time long before streaming when we got our music from albums or radio. It was also a time when you could call a radio station and the DJ just might play your song.
  • The full band wrote this song, but the lyric was written by lead singer Rik Emmett, who told Songfacts: "I wrote it about myself as a 9-year-old with a transistor radio, and then I changed the pronouns to 'she' and 'her.' If there hadn't been a John Sebastian 'Do You Believe in Magic?' and a Pete Townshend 'Won't Get Fooled Again'/Who's Next, 'Magic Power' might not have ever been born."
  • This was one of Triumph's most popular songs in America, where they made an impact with "Lay It On The Line " and "Hold On." They were one of the most popular rock bands in Canada in the late '70s and early '80s.

  • Hermonator from St. LouisObviously some people have to be negative and show their lack of understanding of lyrics and song meanings and what makes different bands both great. Feel sorry got you. Magic Power is a great song and in no way related to what was said in the other fantastic song. Sad. Read the lyrics and maybe get off the ice fishing lake once in a while.
  • Zank from Northern MichiganI find it somewhat interesting that a three piece band from Canada came out with a song in 1981 called "Magic Power" about music being played on the radio. When in the previous year a different three piece band out of Canada produced a song about music being played on the radio called "Spirit Of The Radio". Coincidence? I think not. "And the magic music makes your morning mood"
  • Patrick Longworth from Okanagan Falls, British Columbia, CanadaI love "Magic Power", it's one of my all time favourites.
