Songfacts®:

  • This was released as the first single from Trivium's Vengeance Falls album. The song was performed live for the first time on August 1, 2013 at the Resurrection Fest at Viveiro in Spain.
  • Trivium bassist Paolo Gregoletto discussed the song in a track by track breakdown on his website: "'Strife' grew on me big time throughout the recording. It went from being a song I was unsure of to a definite first single (which was a close one between 'Vengeance Falls' and this one)."

He continued: "The intro is fu--ing massive and will give anyone that likes guitar tone a boner guaranteed. The verse vocals have Matt starting off in a lower register, gradually climbing into a more pissed off menacing voice with some screams layered in."
  • The song's music video was filmed in July 2013 at Studio One in Orlando, Florida and directed by Ramon Boutviseth, who has previously worked with Darkest Hour, Incubus and All That Remains.
