Songfacts®:

  • Most of this song's lyrics are in German, the native language of Warlock's lead singer Doro. The song is about a lasting bond that will keep a couple together for all time. "Für immer" translates to "Forever" in English.
  • Doro wrote this song with Joey Balin, who produced the Triumph and Agony album. They had the entire album written, but Doro suggested they compose one more song. "I set out to write the most brutal, aggressive, f--ked up song," she said in her Songfacts interview. "Then out came 'Für immer,' the most sensitive, meaningful ballad."
  • Doro says that this is one of her most meaningful songs. She even has the title tattooed on her right arm.
  • The eternal bond Doro sings about in this song makes it a popular choice at metalhead weddings and even funerals.
  • Judging by the music video and the sleeve art of the single, you would think that Doro is the only member of Warlock. The video was directed by Mark Rezyka, whose credits include "Seventeen" by Winger and "Edge of a Broken Heart" by Vixen. The clip shows Doro in some kind of enchanted forest, complete with a white horse.
  • When Doro started recording as a solo artist in 1989, she used a live version of this song as the B-side of her single for "Hard Times." The song remained a staple of her live shows, and another live version was released as a single in 2003. This version was taken from a show in Germany that was released on DVD titled Für immer.
