Songfacts®:

  • Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti were tried for the murder of two clerks during a payroll robbery in April 1920, and after a series of failed appeals were executed in 1927. In this song, Woody Guthrie imagines them being welcomed to heaven, admitted because they were wrongly accused. He wrote the song on commission, hired by Folkways Records owner Moses Asch to write songs in support of Sacco and Vanzetti. (Thanks, Alexander Baron - London, England) >>>
