Unanswered Prayers

Album: No Fences (1990)
  • Just the other night at a hometown football game
My wife and I ran into my old high school flame
And as I introduced them, the past came back to me
And I couldn't help but think of the way things used to be

She was the one that I'd wanted for all times
And each night I'd spend prayin' that God would make her mine
And if he'd only grant me this wish I wished back then
I'd never ask for anything again

    Sometimes I thank God
    For unanswered prayers
    Remember when you're talkin'
    To the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
'Cause some of God's greatest gifts
    Are unanswered prayers

    She wasn't quite the angel
That I remembered in my dreams
And I could tell that time had changed me
In her eyes too it seemed
We tried to talk about the old days
There wasn't much we could recall
I guess the Lord knows what he's doin' after all

    And as she walked away
Well I looked at my wife
And then and there I thanked the Good Lord
For the gifts in my life

    Sometimes I thank God
    For unanswered prayers
    Remember when you're talkin'
    To the man upstairs
That just because he may not answer doesn't mean he don't care
'Cause some of God's greatest gifts
    Are unanswered

    Some of God's greatest gifts
    Are all too often unanswered
    Some of God's greatest gifts
Are unanswered prayers Writer/s: Garth Brooks, Larry B. Bastian, Patrick Alger

  • Renna from Cedar KeyKeep on blessing us with good tunes.
    Thank you.
  • Dewayne Gailey from Idaho Love that song Garth Brooks is the best
  • Carrie from Ansonia, Cti think it means that, even though you might want something really bad at that moment, GOD knows that you will be missing out on a better life. so, eventually you will thank GOD that he did not let you go down that path. My sister was very much in love with someone, and she wanted to have a baby...and prayed and prayed for it, but she did not get pregnant. 2 months later, he was killed in a horrible car accident. And GOD knew that she would not have been able to handle that.
  • Morgan from Atlanta, Gai kinda thought it meant that god already has a plan for you and you may not know it yet but he knows whats best and if you dont get what you want or it takes a while your just gonna have to live with it because it may not be a part of your plan.a very meaningful song.
  • George from Jo'burg, South AfricaIts more like be thankfull for what you have now in your life as things might have been different if you chose to go the other route.
