  • No, I'm not color blind
I know the world is black and white
Try to keep an open mind
But I just can't sleep on this, tonight

    Stop this train
I want to get off and go home again
I can't take the speed it's moving in
    I know I can't
But, honestly, won't someone stop this train?

Don't know how else to say it
I don't want to see my parents go
    One generation's length away
From fighting life out on my own

    Stop this train
I want to get off and go home again
I can't take the speed it's moving in
    I know I can't
But, honestly, won't someone stop this train?

    So scared of getting older
I'm only good at being young
So I play the numbers game
To find a way to say that life has just begun

Had a talk with my old man
    Said, "Help me understand"
    He said, "Turn sixty-eight
    You'll renegotiate"

    "Don't stop this train
Don't for a minute change the place you're in
    And don't think I couldn't ever understand
    I tried my hand
John, honestly, we'll never stop this train"

Once in a while, when it's good
    It'll feel like it should
    And they're all still around
And you're still safe and sound
And you don't miss a thing
'Till you cry when you're driving away in the dark

    Singing, stop this train
I want to get off and go home again
I can't take the speed it's moving in
    I know, I can't
'Cause now I see I'll never stop this train. Writer/s: John Clayton Mayer, Pino Palladino

  • Frank from New YorkD from Rhode Island, you sound very mature for your age and i hope you find all the happiness in the world. Your comment is a reflection of how i felt exactly at the same age. Even at 30 im still learning those lessons and life gets sweeter everyday but time keeps going faster. Enjoy every moment, happy birthday
  • D from Rhode Islandthis song is amazing when you understand the lyrics and sit with a quite space and you just listen its all relatable its 2.21.2022 and I'm turning 18 in 3 days 2.24 I don't go a day without thinking of my past being in elementary and just coming to understand the world as of 2.21 I now understand this world and I've seen the ups and downs of it I wish to be back in elementary fearing the unknown but yet so curious to what this place will offer in my future. I've reached near that future and I wish I wasn't here people in high school aren't so kind and I learned it the hard way most of all I'm scared because in 3 months I graduate In 3 days I turn 18 I don't know where ill go and where ill end up and I'm scared of that I've read everyone's comments here and I will agree life is just going to quick my school days are 7 hours they used to feel like 15 hours. Now.. there 20 minutes. My message here is life will fight back you need to push through people are different but I'm not looking back until I'm old enough to settle down good luck in your life and I hope you find what you are looking for and settle where you want to settle
There's always someone that will be there for you even though it may seem like there isn't you just gotta look in the right places

  • Chefgamer from Utahthis song is beautiful. one of the best ones made by John Mayer. I need this song played for me when I pass away. it helps me realize that life going by too quickly and I need to keep moving. and living it, before it ends. that's what I believe this song means. the train is a metaphor he is using to say life is going by way too fast. and he wants it to stop. so he can stay young. and stay the way he is. but then he realizes he has to keep going and keep living his life. and it's beautiful. :')
  • Jb from QldGrowing old, the clock of life. Sometimes I wanna stop this train.
  • Vs from San Francisco This song is very special to me. In a way, I think it’s about contemplating suicide.
  • Jk from LondonI want this played at my funeral. It’s my favourite and it gets me every time.
  • Jake Grissom from Los Angeles, CaThis song is about getting older and learning lessons. John has learned the most valuable lesson of all; the fact that you can't turn back the hands of time.
  • Sam from Lincoln, NeNot only does Mayer express his sense of seeming despair because he's getting older faster than he wants to, he realizes that other people have that same feeling ("had a talk with my old man...said help me understand...he said turn 68; you'll renegotiate"), and that there's nothing we can do to turn the clock back ("'cause now I see I'll never stop this train"). This one gets me teary eyed every time.
  • Kay from Costa Mesa, CaPersonally, it's as if John saw the hearts of people and read their confused and inquiring thoughts. Lyrics flowed at.
When explaining life, love and unexplained sorrow, this song sums it up.
