  • Sit down. I think I love you, anyway, I'd like to try.
I can't stop thinkin' of ya'. If you go, I know I'll cry.
If you want someone to love ya', pretty baby, make it me.
It's not much I'm asking of ya', just try me and you'll see.
Baby, can't ya' see that I'm a desperate man?
I get high, just thinkin' about ya.
You know what they say about the bird in the hand,
And that's why, I, ain't leavin' without ya'.

    (Sit down, sit down.)

  • Tony from Guerneville, CaThis song entered the Top 40 on KFRC in mid December, 1966 - I believe this was the earliest entry in the charts nationally no doubt because they were a local group (in the San Francisco area.)
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn February 11th 1967, the Mojo Men performed their covered version of "Sit Down, I Think I Love You"* on the ABC-TV program 'American Bandstand'...
At the time the song was at #80 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; just over four weeks later on March 12th it would peak at #36 {for 2 weeks} and it stayed on the chart for 11 weeks...
The San Francisco-area quartet had two other Top 100 records, "Dance With Me" {#61 in 1965} and "Me About You" {#83 in 1967}...
    * On November 18th, 1967 The Executives' covered version of the song reached #20 on the Australian Kent Music Report chart.
