  • Should old acquaintance be forgot
    and never brought to mind?
    Should old acquaintance be forgot
    and old lang syne?

[Chorus - this part repeats after every verse]
For auld lang syne, my dear
    for auld lang syne
we'll take a cup of kindness yet
    for auld lang syne.

And surely you'll buy your pint cup
    and surely I'll buy mine
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet
    for auld lang syne.

We two have run about the slopes
    and picked the daisies fine;
But we've wandered many a weary foot
    since auld lang syne.

We two have paddled in the stream
    from morning sun till dine
But seas between us broad have roared
    since auld lang syne.

And there's a hand my trusty friend
And give me a hand o' thine
And we'll take a right goodwill draught
for auld lang syne Lyrics from a song in Public Domain

  • Steve Dotstar from Los Angeles, Caok, Brian showed that the Beach Boys can do Barbershop harmony.....(mixed with a little Freshmen later on in the cut)
  • Sean from Chicago, IlOkay, since this is in the "Beach Boys" section, let's have a REAL Beach Boys thing...

Jeffrey Foskett once told this story...after the Beach Boys hired him circa 1981, around Christmas time, he had to head to the airport to get to his first gig with the group. When he gets to the gate, he sees Dennis Wilson sleeping the previous evening's activities off. He introduces himself to Dennis and says that he was listening to some Beach Boys stuff the night before. He says to Dennis, "How about this old gem?" and he plays a tape of the Beach Boys' "Auld Lang Syne."

Dennis responds: "How about THIS old gem? 'You're Fired!'"
  • Theresa from Kingston, OhI always love when they sing this at the end of "It's a Wonderful Life." That scene is so...wonderful.
  • Bob from The Colony, TxThe tune that is most commonly associated with the song (i.e. the tune that everybody knows) is not the tune that Burns wrote the song to. The original tune that Burns used can be found on recordings by Jean Redpath and The Tannahill Weavers.
  • Mike from Mountlake Terrace, WashingtonGlenn Miller and Guy Lombardo both did this in the 40's and those are the versions most heard in films such as "When Harry met Sally", Also used in "It's a wonderful life" in the closing scenes.
