Songfacts®:

  • "John Lennon" is a huge crowd-pleaser when played live. Arkells lead singer and guitarist, Max Kerman, came up with the idea for the song.

The song is about people feeling sorry for themselves when they do not need to be feeling sorry for themselves or when other people assume that they do not need to feel sorry for themselves.

In our interview with Max Kerman, he explained why he used John Lennon for the song. "The example I'm using is that John Lennon in '67 was on top of the world but he was probably going through a grueling depression and using a lot of drugs," he said. "I was using that as the example of someone who doesn't need to be feeling sorry for himself but is, even though that's a complicated thing."
