Songfacts®:

  • This was the Boys' first release since original member Kevin Richardson left the group in June 2006. Richardson was not replaced as it was hoped his departure was temporary and the Backstreet Boys recorded this as a quartet.
  • The track was written and produced by American songwriter and producer Emanuel "Eman" Kiriakou, who also wrote and produced the hit single "What's Left Of Me" for Nick Lachey. The song was co-written by Lindy Robbins and Jess Cates, who also co-wrote the Backstreet Boys' 2005 similar-sounding comeback single "Incomplete."
  • Nick Carter says on popjustice.com "'Inconsolable' is about a person who really, really loves somebody but they just can't go there because of something that has happened in the past. I personally love the song because it's a great representation of what we are about."
  • This had mixed success sales wise, reaching #2 in the Brazilian and Italian charts and #3 in Japan. However in the Backstreet Boys' native America it only reached #86.
