Songfacts®:

  • This song addresses the idealistic expectations of success that so many aspire to but so few achieve.

Deep in a corner of the night
We were lying in the middle of the road
Counting the planes as they flew by
    Inconceivable imagining them go

Bastille frontman Dan Smith sings here of watching planes in the sky reaching "inconceivable" heights, Later in the song, Smith notes he would rather be grounded here on earth, rather than pursuing the unrealistic but empty goals that so many view as success.
  • Dan Smith is a huge film buff and there movie references throughout the Wild World album. He told NME: "The song 'Glory', that's like a Wayne's World moment: you and a friend lying on top of a car late at night, looking at the planes flying over."
  • The music video was shot in Dallas during the band's 2017 US tour and sees frontman Dan Smith take part in an epic road trip. "The song is about friendship and those woozy middle-of-the-night chats that drunkenly seem so important at the time," said Smith. "It's my favorite track on Wild World, and we wanted the video to be a celebration of storytelling, relationships, and how two people can remember things completely differently."
