Songfacts®:

  • The mountain lion sound that Built To Spill frontman Doug Martsch creates for this track was done by his guitar through a wah pedal. He told American Songwriter magazine: "It was one of those things that I went back and forth on because it seemed so silly. But y'know, yeah, in the end it was just, 'oh that's rad, who cares if it's silly.'"
  • The lyrics to this song were written by Doug Martsch's wife, Karena Youtz. Martsch told Under The Radar magazine: "She's written lyrics for a lot of our songs over the years. I think that might be all she did for this record. The basic ideas for the song [were] 'being a lion, being a human, too, living in a cage.' Her lyrics."
