  • Here we have a rare love song from Cold, a band known for sullen themes and sonic assaults. On the band's sixth album, The Things We Can't Stop, lead singer Scooter Ward wanted to honor his wife, who went through the turmoil of Cold's career - including their rise in the early '00s and breakup in 2006 - right there with him.

In a Songfacts interview with Ward, he explained: "I'm not really good at writing love songs. I'm good at writing tragic songs, and songs about being a musician and about what I want to do for other people and things like that, but I'm not good at love songs. So, I wrote the best type of love song I could for my wife, and it was beautiful. This is why I do it all: It's to give my family a better life, and that's it. Most of the time we don't have a better life, we just have a life, and it's alright. But she loved it, and that's all that matters."
  • Ward took a bit of liberty with the first line, "I remember when the lights went out in Boston." He chose the city as the setting because it flowed well with the song, and because he loves Boston.
