Songfacts®:

  • Delilah is an urban singer-songwriter from London. She was born Paloma Ayana, but since Paloma Faith was already using her first name, she decided to borrow her moniker from her great-grandmother, Delilah. The songstress first came to prominence when she was chosen to provide vocals on British drum-and-bass duo Chase & Status' Single, "Time." This is her debut single, which was released through Atlantic Records on September 6, 2011.
  • The song borrows both lyrics and melody from Rufus & Chaka Khan's 1983 hit, "Ain't Nobody." In an interview with PyroMag in September 2011, Delilah said that the song started off with her singing Chaka Khan's song, and inspired, she made the track at 1 in the morning as a bit of fun. She continued: "I obviously I didn't want to steal Chaka Khan's original lyrics, so I recorded it and went away to write something properly, to then record the next week. In the meantime the label heard it and loved it, so then we just went in and recorded the track."
  • Delilah told Pyromag that when writing the song, she wanted to move away from the dubstep beat that was expected of her and go for a smoother vibe. She said: "Everyone thought I was going to go with a break or a dubstep beat but I deliberately want to move away from that, that's not what I am about. I love that side of the music industry – I go out partying to it! I wanted to do something that hasn't been over done and didn't want it to have your typical dubstep drop. I just wanted it to be a bit smoother and have a bit more of a growth rather than 'smash in your face' kind of vibe."
