Songfacts®:

  • On this introspective ballad, Dustin Lynch sings of a hot-and-cold relationship where neither he nor his partner can let the other go. They can't resist stoking the flames of their dead relationship by throwing more wood on the fire. Though they keep getting burned, Lynch and his girl keep coming back for more.
  • Dustin Lynch wrote "Wood On The Fire" with his "Thinking 'Bout You" collaborator Hunter Phelps, along with Jordan Minton and Jordan Reynolds. He released it on September 9, 2022 as his first single since his Blue Sky album.
  • Zach Crowell created the agitated-yet-intimate production. Crowell has been Lynch's producer since he helmed three tracks for his 2017 Current Mood album.
  • Crowell played the keyboards on the track. The other musicians are:

    Drums: Nir Z
    Bass; Jimmie Lee Sloas
    Acoustic Guitar: Ilya Toshinskiy
Electric Guitar: Sol Philcox and Devin Malone
Dobro: Scotty Sanders and Ilya Toshinskiy
    Pedal Steel: Scotty Sanders
