  • Kaleidoscope love, yeah, that is you and me
Forever changing, we make life interesting
Some days, we're red and some days, we both think green
But I like the nights when we leave the canvas free

On "Colourblind," Ed Sheeran departs from his signature plucky love songs and embarks on a journey of personal growth and transformation. With poignant lyrics, Sheeran embraces the notion that love is a multifaceted, ever-changing entity, akin to the intricate patterns and shifting colors within a kaleidoscope. Despite its dynamic nature, Sheeran finds beauty in its ever-evolving tapestry of emotions and experiences.
  • In January 2019, Ed Sheeran tied the knot with his former secondary school classmate, Cherry Seaborn. As Sheeran continues to grow older and deepen his connection in marriage, he discovers a profound truth: love is a constantly evolving force. Drawing inspiration from his parents' enduring relationship, Sheeran recognizes that love transforms over time. It transcends its initial form, taking on various shades and dimensions, much like a vibrant spectrum of colors.

"It is not what it is at the start, but that doesn't make it... It evolves into these different things, and it's different 'colors,'" said Sheeran. "You're in love with people for the 'bright red fire' or the really 'chilled blue' or just pure f---ing anger. There's many layers, and I find love is colours. To be truly in love, I guess, you have to be colourblind at some points."
  • Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud" and "Perfect" showcase his ability to craft love songs that are both romantic and catchy. However, "Colourblind," takes a delightful turn from the familiar formulas of his previous hits and embraces a more serene and introspective tone. Listeners are invited to enter a world where the vibrant colors of life are washed away, leaving behind a sense of calm and contentment in the presence of a loved one.
  • "Colourblind" is one 14 songs penned by Sheeran for his sixth studio album, Subtract, in collaboration with producer Aaron Dessner (known for his work with The National and Taylor Swift).
  • Dessner plays many of the instruments on the track: synthesizer, upright piano, synth bass, electric guitar. The other musicians are:

    Rob Moose: violin, viola, cello
    J.T. Bates: drums
    Bella Blasko: Prophet synthesizer
    Jonathan Low: Prophet synthesizer

American instrumentalist Rob Moose used to be a member of the Osso String Quartet. He has also worked with Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver, The Killers, and Taylor Swift.
