Songfacts®:

  • This is the first single from Red Velvet Car, the thirteenth studio album by the American rock band Heart. Nancy Wilson, who penned this song's lyrics explained on the band's website: "'Hey You' is about the arc of a love affair, and gratitude for what was there and maybe what is no longer there. This song took me about ten years to finish. Perhaps I was waiting for a kind of ending. But I could never get it right until I worked with (producer) Ben Mink. It reflects a sort of poetic overview of life that might hurt a lot, but it's not bitter. When I first came up with those words, I thought could it be that simple? Yes, it could."
  • This was Heart's first song to chart on Billboard's Adult Contemporary radio airplay chart in more than 16 years. The group last entered the survey with their #24-peaking cover of Donna Summer's "The Woman in Me" the week of Aug. 6, 1994. Nancy Wilson told Billboard magazine: "It's good to see stations adding ('Hey You') and people requesting a simple love song I've had in my back pocket for quite awhile."

  • Patricia from Pueblo, Cothis is just sad....she and Cameron Crowe had been together since 1986 and then separated in 2008. Lostening to the words of this song really catches your throat at times.
