Songfacts®:

  • I could blame it on the whiskey
I wouldn't blame you if you didn't even miss me
Gave you a million reasons, girl, not to be with me
    Should've never let you go

"Blame It On You" is a tears-in-my-beer ballad where Jason Aldean reflects on the ending of a relationship. Sat on a bar stool, half drunk, he realizes he can't blame anyone but himself for the reasons his girl walked out on him.
  • The songwriters are:

Kurt Allison and Tully Kennedy, who are members of the American music production team New Voice Entertainment. They are also in Jason Aldean's touring band (Allison as guitarist, Kennedy as bassist). Allison and Tully have been with Aldean since the early 2000s and he has stated in the past they are his oldest friends in Nashville.

John Dee Edwards and Brian Gene White, who co-wrote Aldean's 2016 track "In Case You Don't Remember" and 2018 cut "Like You Were Mine," both times with Tully Kennedy.

Singer-songwriter Michael Tyler, who also co-penned 9's second single, "Got What I Got," and provided backing vocals.
  • 9 features more than its fair share of drinking songs, including "Came Here To Drink" and "I Don't Drink Anymore."

"We had these songs coming in and I just couldn't force myself to say, 'Man, I'm not going to cut that song because it talks about drinking and we already have some.' To me, the best song wins," Aldean told Billboard. "We cut the best songs we could find and these were the best songs that we had. Its life stuff and it is what it is."
