Songfacts®:

  • "Colors" was written and recorded by Jason DeRulo as the Coca-Cola-sponsored anthem for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The anthemic, upbeat song celebrates the unity in diversity that the worldwide soccer tournament showcases.

Look at how far we've come
There's beauty in our unity we've found
    I'm ready, I'm ready
We still got a lil' way
But look at how far we've come
    Hands up for your colors

Jason Derulo said: "Through my years of travel, I've been able to see the beauty in our cultural differences and I wrote 'Colors' to celebrate that diversity and be a part of the amazing energy that sports fans around the world give to their teams."
  • The song title refers to the fact that the players wear their country's "colors" while competing in the tournament. DeRulo tweeted, "Represent your country - Represent your flag. Be proud of where you're from and who you are."
  • A separate bilingual Latin American version of the song featuring Colombian reggaeton singer-songwriter Maluma was released a week later.
  • The song's music video was a double homecoming for Jason Derulo as it was filmed at The Citadelle Laferriére (a mountaintop fortress located in Nord, in his homeland of Haiti) and the city where he was raised, Miami. The singer said:

"As the lyrics say, 'There's beauty in the unity we've found.' We're inundated everyday with negative news and it's hard to remain positive. That's why it's more important than ever to unite with people in your community to try and make a difference."
