Songfacts®:

  • The first single to be released from Graffiti U in Australia, is a romantic jazzy ballad, which finds Urban explaining that he's ready to fully open himself up to love.

Take a little bit of my heart tonight
    Baby, be mine now
    Baby, be mine now
    Maybe it's time we
Put our hearts in a parallel line
  • The soulful tune was penned by a team of big-name songwriters: The English recording artist, Ed Sheeran, the "Thinking Out Loud" singer's collaborator Amy Wadge, Snow Patrol keyboardist Johnny McDaid (Ed Sheeran, Pink), singer-songwriter Julia Michaels (Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez) and producer Benjamin Levin (Maroon 5, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars). Urban said:

"I just loved the song the very first time I heard it - it just struck me as one of those kinds of songs that comes along very, very rarely. I grabbed my guitar, started playing it and it just fit. It felt so right for me and I was just anxious to get in the studio and get to work on it."
  • You said I love you to me
And I don't know what that mean
So I froze on my feet
    People use it so carelessly

Urban said Ed Sheeran is unusual in being a male songwriter who is not afraid to be vulnerable. "When is a guy going to say, 'People use the word so carelessly?' That's not usually a guy sentiment, but I feel it as far as being scared of having my heart broken by somebody," he explained. "Yeah. That's a guy feeling. That's a human feeling. So, when I heard those opening lines and chorus, 'take a little bit of my heart tonight. No I literally don't mind. Just please don't misplace it.' Gosh, that's a great line."
