Songfacts®:

  • This features guest vocalist Jason Derulo. "I saw a cover that they did of 'Want to Want Me' and thought it was awesome," DeRulo told Digital Spy regarding his decision to collaborate with Little Mix. "I'm in America so I wasn't super familiar with them, but once I heard the cover, I went and did some research and I liked the stuff that they've done."

"They then sent me this song ('Secret Love Song'), which I thought was awesome," he added, "so I came in and put my own twist on it."
  • Derulo used his verse to recall an affair he had with a lady that he was head over heels in love with. "I told a true f--king story about this girl that I am really into but she has a boyfriend but we still do our thing," he said.
  • Little Mix and Jason Derulo performed the song together for the first time at Capital FM's Jingle Bell Ball on December 5, 2015.
  • The song's music video sees the four Little Mix members individually wandering through nighttime London. It was filmed at London Bridge and Tower Bridge on December 16 and 17, 2015 from 13:00 to 03:00 BST. The shots of Derulo dancing solo in an empty studio were filmed a week earlier.
  • Little Mix's Leigh-Anne Pinnock explained that the song details the plight of an in-love couple who can't be together. "It makes me really emotional, this song," she said. "It's really heartfelt, it can relate to everybody."
