Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Mabel's second album is this empowering anthem that finds her projecting the confidence to unleash her full potential.

    Let them know
Go ahead and flip that switch
No, they can't beat you down
    'Cause, baby you're that
    Bitch

Mabel experienced problems with self-confidence for many years, fearing the real her wasn't enough. Having found the confidence to be herself in front of others, she penned this song for those fans struggling with similar issues. "I just want you to know that who you really are is enough and I want nothing more than for you to be proud of that," she said. "LET THEM KNOW."
  • Mabel wrote the fearless, feel-good lyrics while living with her parents during the COVID pandemic. The words were inspired by her obsessively re-watching documentaries and dramas about New York 1980s drag culture such as Paris Is Burning and Pose, as well as RuPaul's Drag Race. As Mabel viewed them, she reflected on dance music's ethos of expression, liberation and inclusion.
  • Mabel penned the song with her friends:

Singer-songwriter Raye previously collaborated with Mabel on her High Expectations bonus track "Cigarette."

Songwriter and producer MNEK also helped Mabel pen her High Expectations cut "OK (Anxiety Anthem)."

Electronic producer SG Lewis, who hangs out with Mabel in the same London musician circles. His other credits include Dua Lipa's "Hallucinate."
