Songfacts®:

  • This song is a call to worship the same Jesus who spoke creation into being, walked the Earth, went to the Cross, rose up from the dead, and will come back again.

I know that my Redeemer lives
He's still keeping all His promises
The same Jesus, the same Jesus

The song celebrates the story of God, and His faithfulness through every generation. The One who was, who is, and who is to come.
  • The idea for the song came to Matt Redman as he was reading Acts 1. A light bulb went off in his head when he came across the verse where two angels tell the disciples that one day Jesus will return.

"Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go into heaven." (Acts 1:11 NIV

Redman explained to New Release Today: "The phrase, 'This same Jesus,' struck me. And, I realized there was a song in that. He's going to come back someday. Any time in history, He's always there, whether it be the creation, the cross, or His future glory."
