Songfacts®:

  • Matt York is a Canadian singer/songwriter who credits his musical development to his father, who was a high-school music teacher. York told us about this song: "I knew someone who for a long time was seeing a girl and loved her to death. His only problem was that he never took it to the next level, never really told her how much he dug her and never made it official that she was the one he wanted to spend his life with. Because he never moved it along, she ended up leaving and I don't think he's ever recovered.
Recently a fan told me his story of marriage, divorce, marriage, kids and another divorce and this song goes out to people who had a lot going for them and then lost it for one reason or another. Hopefully, it'll help them figure out why things happen but give them some fire in the belly to do something about it.
This tune was written in a matter of hours in a tiny rehearsal space that I had in Toronto over the winter. It was one of those tunes that just came out of nowhere but was completed so quickly. I'd have to say it's one of my favourites for sure."
