Songfacts®:

  • Robert Rahmeek Williams is an American rapper from Philadelphia, who records under the name of Meek Mill. Williams adopted his rap moniker after family and friends from his neighborhood kept referencing him by his middle name. Meek began taking the rap game seriously at the age of 12 and formed the group, "BloodHoundz," with three others. After five years the young MC ventured on his own and became one of Philadelphia's hottest underground rap artists on an independent label. In 2007, Meek released his first mix tape, Flamerz 1, which featured the hit single, "In My Bag." Its follow-up, Flamerz 2, came to the attention of TI, who signed him to his label Grand Hustle Records. It didn't work out as T.I.'s run-ins with the law prevented him from giving as much time as he'd have liked to his new signing, so Meek signed to Rick Ross's Maybach Music Group.
  • This street anthem, in which Meek puts his gangsta on full display, was originally featured on the Maybach Music Group compilation album Self Made Vol. 1 featuring Rick Ross. Released as the record's fifth single, it peaked at #20 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally. A remix was recorded, which featured additional rhymes by T.I., Birdman, Lil Wayne, Ross, DJ Khaled and Swizz Beatz. Released to iTunes on February 7, 2012, it gave Meek his first Hot 100 entry under his own name. (He'd previously been a featured artist on Wale's #81 charting "Ambition.")
