• This is about a family where the father has a drinking problem. When he drinks he loses his temper and becomes violent. The song is written from the point of view of a kid in this family, who fears that his father will one day kill his mother ("I'm terrified that she'll wind up dead in his hands"). The mother can't tell the truth about what the father does ("Just tell the nurse, you slipped and fell"). In the last part of the song, the father is drunk again and is looking for a fight, but this time the mother has had enough, and she grabs a gun and kills him. Now that the father will never hurt the family again, we get the meaning of the title, "Never Again." >>

• Grand Master N from West PhiladelphiaThis used to be my favorite song as a kid because it was catchy, and I didn’t understand what they were saying at the time, but now that I do, it’s hard for me to listen to because the subject matter is triggering. I still like Nickelback, but I guess I’m gonna have to find a new favorite song from that band.

I’m 60 and it’s still with me. No amount of drugs and alcohol could make it go away. I did make sure my children never had to witness that kind of behavior.
