Songfacts®:

  • There are songs about favorite women, favorite cities, favorite food, so why not favorite colors? No, this is not "Paint It Black" all over again; Hagar is known as the Red Rocker, and this is his own take on the color of anger, and of course of blood.
  • "Red" was released on the Capitol label as the B-side of "I've Done Everything For You" - obviously with a red cover, but the definitive version kicks off the 1978 live All Night Long album, and segues into "Rock 'N' Roll Weekend."
  • "Red" was co-written with John Carter; the live version runs 5:03. >>>

  • Willie from Scottsdale, AzHere in Phoenix, Sammy was a favorite of Dave Pratt, a morning DJ on KUPD in the 1980s. The station began issuing Red Cards to people who wrote into the station, in red ink, asking for a card. Sammy Hagar is Red Card holder #1. I'm like 14,000 or so ;-)
