Songfacts®:

  • Susanne Sundfør wrote this song after spending a week on a Dark Mountain Project Way Of Nature retreat. The song is inspired by "Rearmament", a poem by the American environmental poet Robinson Jeffers (1887-1962). "Rearmament" was written in response to Russian rearmament in 1934 and it forms part of The Dark Mountain Project manifesto (the name Dark Mountain comes from the last line of the poem).
  • Sundfør said the song is, "about the importance of seeing the beauty in things in order to find purpose and strength in life."
  • The song is a collaboration with American singer-songwriter John Grant. Sundfør said: "I’ve been a great admirer of John Grant and his art, and meeting him for the first time at Bella Union Studios in London was an experience I’ll never forget. What a talent, what a charisma! I’m so happy he’s on the album."
