Songfacts®:

  • This song is about Stull, an unincorporated area in Kansas near Lawrence. It's most famous for its cemetery, which lies outside an abandoned church. In the 1970s, a student at the University of Kansas (in Lawrence) wrote an article for the school newspaper explaining that the cemetery is one of the Seven Gates of Hell, and an urban legend was born.

Urge Overkill got the idea for the song when they were passing through Kansas on tour and heard about Stull.
  • "Stull" is also the name of the EP that includes this song. On the cover is a photo of the cemetery in Stull with the tombstone of the territory's namesake, Isaac Stull, in the foreground.
  • The Stull EP was the last Urge Overkill release on Touch And Go Records, the Chicago-based label that was also home to Butthole Surfers. Signed to Geffen, they released the album Saturation in 1993, and the following year, another cut from Stull, their cover of "Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon," was used in the movie Pulp Fiction.
