Songfacts®:

  • Shadows & Light was the second album from Wilson Phillips, and it had a more serious, introspective tone than their debut. Many in the business were impressed with the quality, but it didn't sell as well, though it was still highly profitable. This, a breakup song in which a woman vows to carry on with life even though she's hurting, was the most successful release from it. >>>

  • The video was directed by Michael Bay, who was a rising star in the world of music videos, but still a few years away from his first feature film (Bad Boys, 1995). The clip is mostly black-and-white footage of Wendy Wilson and Chynna Phillips emoting in lingerie, which was a new look for the group at the urging of their record company. This was a tactical misstep, as the Wilson Phillips audience was mostly women and had little interest in seeing the girls in states of undress.
